Asus ROG Phone II

Design

The ROG Phone 2 is made up of glass and metal, though it features a matte, beveled aluminum frame as opposed to a smooth, curved stainless steel frame, and feels less slick as a result. The offset fingerprint sensor has been removed from the back and replaced by an in-display sensor, and the fake vents on the back have also been taken away, making way for a single, smaller, and functional vent. Reflective, angled lines give the back a sci-fi look, and it’s all slashes and cuts, RGB lighting, and the sheer weight of the thing all come together to make up a busy design instead of curves and minimalism. The phone is a loud-and-proud Republic of Gamers device, right down to the RGB-lit ROG logo on the back.

Features and Performance

ROG Phone II is one of the most powerful phones that you can buy in the market, and it’s easy to see the results based on its components. There’s absolutely no slowdown while using apps and games, and switching between them is nearly instantaneous. A few things inside of the phone contribute to that: the Snapdragon 855 Plus processor that was created to be faster and more efficient during gaming, the speedy UFS 3.0 storage, and its 12GB of RAM. It feels that it is built solidly.

Here are some benchmarks:

  • AnTuTu 3D: 396,749
  • Geekbench 5 CPU: 764 single-core; 2,716 multi-core
  • 3DMark Sling Shot Extreme: 5,395 Vulkan; 6,189 OpenGL

The screen specs are also solid, with 2340 x 1080 resolution, 10-bit HDR capabilities and a 500,000:1 contrast ratio. Day-to-day, it also has strong viewing angles, depth in its blacks and is responsive. The giant display is protected by Gorilla Glass 6 and book-ended by stereo speakers, with a front 24MP camera at the top right.

Battery

With a huge 6000mAh of battery power inside, the Asus ROG Phone 2 is a bonafide 48-hour phone with light to regular use. It easily made it through a day and a half without much effort, and with a 30W HyperCharger included with the phone, you can charge it up to almost 50% in just 30 minutes enabling a multiple-day battery life that many of us crave when away from an outlet for more than 24 hours. Within the settings, there’s a PowerMaster feature that opens up control over apps that auto-start, giving you access to a range of battery modes, including Power Saver, Super Saver, and Battery Care.

Camera

Asus ROG Phone II features a dual-lens camera setup on the back-side composed of a 48MP main lens and a 13MP 125-degree wide-angle lens shooters. Sharp images can be taken with the bare camera configuration even under extreme sunlight. Photos taken using the HDR mode gives-off best result as it automatically adjusting the contrast, saturation, and brightness.

Game Tests

We ran a mix of heavy games such as Honkai impact 3, Asphalt 9, Mobile Legends, Call Of Duty, and NBA 2k20 all of which ran flawlessly.

Other features include touch settings that you can adjust the sensitivity of touch and sliding stability, as well as display settings that enables to adjust the refresh rate and enable anti-aliasing, performance settings with X-Mode that enables overclocking the CPU at the cost of more power consumption, and lastly, Macro settings, which you can record touches and play it whenever you need an assistant in automatically clicking the screen.
