ZenFone Max Pro M2 is made-up of plastic but it feels premium and durable and doesn’t feel the same way as other phones that is also made up of cheap plastic. Asus has given the back a glass finish that not only looks luxurious but also reflects light in an impressive pattern. The unit weighs 175 grams which is light enough to prevent your hands on getting undue fatigue.
The M2 has 6.26 inches with an aspect ratio of 19:9 and almost a bezel-free notch screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels (~403 ppi density). At the back, we find the 12 MP + 5 MP dual camera set up along with an LED flash. The left side has the tray for the dual-SIM card and a dedicated microSD card slot, while the power button – volume rocker combo can be found on the right. At the bottom, we find the headphone jack, microphone, micro USB port, and the speaker grill. The top is fully plain and only houses the noise-canceling microphone.
The unit has a 1080p+ panel which has 2280×1080 pixels resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The display claims to offer 94-percent wider color gamut and 450 nits brightness which is decent for this screen of this size. Colors are accurate and rich, and watching videos under direct sunlight is not a problem. The ZenFone Max Pro M2 glass also houses a Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. It’s the cheapest smartphone in the market with the latest Gorilla Glass 6 protection.
ZenFone Max Pro M2 features a 1.95GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE with Adreno 512 along with a 6gb of ram and 64gb of rom. The unit offers all standard connectivity options including dual-SIM dual-standby (DSDS), 4G VoLTE, 802.11n wireless (only the 2.4 GHz band), WiFi- Direct, Bluetooth 5.0, and GPS. There is a dedicated microSD card slot (for all variants) that supports up to 2TB storage expansion. Sensors such as accelerometer, gyroscope, compass, proximity, ambient light, and fingerprint are available.
The 5000mAh battery on the phone can comfortably last for more than a day or a day and a half. Heavy users shouldn’t have any problem lasting throughout the day. Also, despite having a 5000mAh battery, slow-charging of the phone could prove to be an issue for users with busy schedules.
The front cam of the unit is now using a 13MP Sony IMX486 sensor on the front with f/2.0 aperture and 1.12-micron pixel size. The selfies captured on the phone are fairly decent.
Rear Camera Sample Shots:
The 12MP + 5MP Sony IMX486 sensor rear camera shoots photos very well under good and natural lighting. Images have plenty of detail while the colors are accurate. The dual rear camera shots during the day capture clear and sharp images and with almost no grains visible at all.
Front Camera Sample Shots:
Performance and Benchmarks
We test the CPU performance of the Asus ZenFone Pro Max M2 using GeekBench 4 and we came up with the single core, multi-core and compute the score of the Snapdragon 660.
- Single Core – 1,460
- Multi-Core – 5,382
- CPU Compute Score – 5364
We also test the gaming performance of the ZenFone Max Pro M2 and it is excellent for gaming.
Playing Honkai Impact 3 on the unit renders no problem even though there are a slight frame drops and stutters but still the performance is still excellent.
Another game we’ve tested is the PUBG Mobile, we’d set the graphics settings to the highest possible supported on the phone and still the fps is constant, almost no frame drops and stutters.
Next game is the Mobile Legends which is very popular these days, we ran it on highest settings with character frame, shadow, high-quality display, and high frame rate mode ON and the in-game performance is great and the fps is also constant with zero frame drops at all.
The last game is the NBA 2K19 which is another title that needs a great performing smartphone in order to play it smoothly. We ran it on the ZenFone Max Pro M2 with the highest graphics settings possible but with Cloth Simulation OFF. The FPS is constant and again, no frame drops and stutter.
Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 diligently complies to the recipe for instant online success. It has all the right Elements – the powerful Snapdragon 660, stock Android software, trendy design, bigger battery than it’s competitors, and a price that undercuts the competition. The Zenfone Max Pro M2 is also an excellent option for Gaming and Photography. The Zenfone Max Pro M2 is one of those phones that we can cordially recommend especially for those who are looking for a “Bang for the buck” Smartphone.
